  • Re: Commercial skipping becomes sluggish after MC running for days

I concur...  When watching recorded shows, Vista's MCE becomes sluggish with a default installation of DVRMS.  That's unfortunate, but I've gone to installing the package without the File Watcher service and ComSkip -- I didn't test further for an installation without only File Watcher. As I use DirMon2 for file monitoring ...

jelwood:Keystone, I noticed that you are setting both the input and output fps.  Are you having issues with the fps?Just not knowing any better. ;)  The harddup option solved all my a/v synch issues.

jelwood, thanks for your work!  The demuxing issues that I was having appear to be solved.  I've also added the harddup tag and no longer have any duplicate frames being skipped warning while encoding. That has given me perfect audio synch for very long files and may have resolved my non-active -edl issue when using the mencoder ...

randyharris:-oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=aac:abitrate=128I just tried that on my main system and returned the same lack of audio problem. Every time I play the file WMP automatically go online to aquire a new CODEC but still no audio. Mplayer playback is fine. I've got Nero installed and when checking the media properties for the file ...

Hecks:I have a question about deinterlacing: searching the various mencoder forums, the consensus seems to be that deinterlacing should be placed before scaling in -vf, and that pp=md is better than the alternatives. I just did some quick experiments with a clip of a news broadcast with strolling text:pp=md quite blocky text and a slightly ...

  • Re: Help testing MEncoder with DVR-MS support

To give another perspective on those x264 encoding settings, with commercials edited out (-edl) of last nights '24' for a 43 minute show, it took ~43 minutes to achieve an encoded file size of 224 MB!  That was for 640x480 -- a slightly higher resolution than I was using for the Xvid 4:3 encodings, returning truer colour ...

jelwood:However, why do you crop the show before scaling it?With my NTSC broadcasts if I do no small cropping I will be encoding some black borders around the shows. Overscanning for SD? Those crop settings were what I found to be the near regular results when doing an mplayer cropdetect on recorded 4:3 and 16:9 shows..I'm playing ...

randyharris:btw - any easy way to have the related EDL files be deleted when a DVR-MS file is deleted? Jere Jones' DirMon2:   http://www.dragonglobal.org/dirmon.htmI use that rather than FileWatcher. It gives me far greater control over various Dtb calls, file clearing, prioritising tasks, scheduled blackouts, etc..  In ...

jelwood, thanks for the tips on the mp4 container.  I'm still learning......    I did just try installing that CoreAAC filter and rebooting the system to no change. When playing a mencoder faac file I still only attain audio in Mplayer. The only other filters I have installed on this system are from Nero, PureVideo, ...
