    Conversion Hung....

    Hi Folks;

     I'm running Win 7 Enterprise (x64) and am converting std cable shows to .wmv One thing I keep running into is that some shows (no particular rhyme or reason) hang during conversion.

     Sometimes, if I drag them back over to the recorded TV directory and process them again all is well. Other times, they won't convert unless I first convert them to .mpg first.

    I'm using the same .wmv profile on all shows and the one's that hang aren't always the same and nothing is DRM protected. Wether I use convert2wmv or the newer file conversion feature I get the same thing. Same thing also if I choose the Intelligent Connect profile.

    With XP and the last release of the toolbox this almost never happened. It was a real rareity if it did. The system hardware is identical and I've put the processor back to stock settings (no overclock) in an effort to troubleshoot this issue.

    For the life of me, I can't figure it out - any ideas?

    Conversion hung

    Re: Conversion Hung....

    I'm trying a new approach. I bumped up the memory voltage to 1.58 (from 1.50) for the DDR3 memory.

    It's got to be a hardware issue (in some fashion) because it's too random to be anything else (that I can think of) and it never did it before....on top of that, usually they will succeed if I re-rpocess them. That tells me it shouldn't be the recording itself...

    The board (Asus P55) supports 4 dimms but in the past I found that when running 4 dimms it was important to increase the voltage a bit over the stock setting.

    To that end, I bumped it up to 1.58 and tried to process the same show again - success. This makes me wonder, is converting a show memory intensive? At any rate, I'll post back after a week and either verify the solution or debunk it as I'll be transcoding somewhere around 25 shows.

    Well it was a nice thought but here's what I got from Seinfeld last night;

    Begin conversion of C:\Temp\Seinfeld_CKVU_2011_11_02_00_00_00fileprocess.dvr-ms to C:\Temp\Seinfeld_CKVU_2011_11_02_00_00_00fileprocess.wmv

    Same channel I always record Seinfeld from and most times the conversion works just fine.

    I don't get it - what could be causing this????

    EDIT: I just dragged and dropped the file back into the recorded TV folder and it re-processed it using the same commercials file and this time completed just fine. I don't get it. It's the identical file with the identical commercials file and the identical wmv profile. Nothing has changed.

    I'm running into this probably with 5-10 shows per week. 9 times out of 10 dragging them back to recorded TV to be re-processed causes them to succeed. Argh!
