Installing DVRMSToolbox on Server 2008 R2 fails

I am trying to install dvrmstoolbox onto my Server 2008 R2 x64 but the cropfilter.dll is failing to register.

Anyone know why it is failing or has anyone had success installing onto a server OS?

     Thanks.

I've installed on server 2008 r2 before, but there isn't much you can do on the server O/S.  What are you trying to accomplish?

I have a firewall server (2008 R2) which I also have uTorrent client installed on running as a service to download my desired hdtv episodes.

I also have another server (2008 R2 also) which acts as a VM host and also hosts my fileshares on an array of large drives - the completed WTV files reside here.

I have a Windows 7 Ultimate HTPC in my living room - Media Center points to the fileshares on the VM host for its media libraries.

I currently have a NAnt scripted task running on the media center which hourly moves any mkv from the firewall server to the local drive and then processes the mkv using 'MKV TV Show to WTV' profile - it then moves successfully created WTV to the fileshare and they duly appear in the media center 'Recorded TV' library - which is great but this process relies on moving files across 2 machines which also involves a slow ethernet over power connection so can take in excess of 30 mins per episode in data transmission alone.

If I can configure my VM host to be able to simply pull the mkv and perform the dvrms task it would be far more efficient since I have gigabit ethernet between the servers and I don't have to have the Media Center powered up on a permanent basis.

I hope this explanation gives you a better idea what I am aiming for? It's not that I can't get what I want - it's just I want it to work faster and more efficiently :)

    Thanks for your time.

(I should add that I store all my media on a filehost as opposed to the media center simply because I have several other Media Centers around the house and also stream my content via TVersity when I am out and about).

You cannot do anything to do with wtv on the server o/s, you'll need windows 7 for the proper codecs.  My suggestion is to create a win 7 vm on the vm host to do the conversion.  That's the solution I went with.

I'd guess that the server doesn't have any of the underlying bits required to make DirectShow work installed.  You might be able to get it working by enabling the Desktop Experience feature, but it's not a supported platform even if you manged to shovel the bits on.

sccrgoalie1 -  where specifically do you have your win 7 vm (vhd file) stored?  does it reside on a physical hard drive? a RAID? or a network share?

I have a win 7 vm now.  this win 7 vm (vhd) currently resides on my F: drive which is the letter assigned to my RAID 5 array.  F: is accessible on my WS 2008 R2 host OS.  My Win 7 VM (hyper-v vhd file) is stored on F:\win7_vm.vhd.  I have DVRMSToolbox 1.2.2.5 and haali splitter installed within the Win 7 VM (vhd). The mkv to wtv conversion occurs within this Win 7 vm (win7_vm.vhd) and works great, but the wtv playback seems to be choppy in parts.  If I copy the WTV off onto another PC, the choppiness is consistent in same spots.  Something is causing issues within the conversion itself.  Wasn't sure whether I need to move my vhd to a physical HDD?

My command line has -wtv -haali -v and I can see Haali icon in the Win 7 VM systray so I know it's working.

I never had any problems converting on a VM so I'm not sure what the issue is.  I would try ramping up the CPU's and RAM, then if necessary try the physical hard disk.

Thanks.  I had my Win 7 x86 VM set to 1024 MB of RAM with 2 virtual cores.  Am increasing to 2048 MB of RAM first.  Is on a virtual IDE controller and the vhd is fixed (not dynamic).  Would you mind sharing your settings for your Win 7 VM that you're using to convert?
