    can't cut commercials outa wtv's?

so, i got SAV1, set everythingup and it detects the commercials fine, but as soon as DTB goes to cut commersials out i get a error "While WTV files are vreated with SBE, they will not work with this action"

Does DBT not support cutting the files? thought that was all set:)

     I'm using 1.2.1.7 on win7 x64 btw.. thanks guys

P.S. was there a regular release of the win7 addin? or just the EA one?

Most puzzleing. I have two W7 RC1 HTPC boxes set up with automated commercial skipping and they both work well. Yes, there's the SAV1 long processing bug when I post process an old recording, but regular new recordings are working well. There is no EA version of the W7 addin.

     Bye.

Ah, you were being literal, not metaphorical. There are automated ways to actually cut out commercials by using automation from DVRMSToolbox and one of the compatible editors that takes a cut list from SAV1 and literally removes the commercials. I've not researched it, but I'm guessing you might find some scripts or settings on this web site to do just that. However, I don't recommend it. Why did I just say that? I've been using VCRs and then ReplayTVs for recording and watching TV for many years. The VCRs I had (actually, my wife still has one) had Commercial Advance and ReplayTVs have Commercial Advance. Commercial Advance is a patented method of detecting and automatically skipping commercials. Though not actually illegal, any company who might think to sell a DVR with true Commercial Advance would be sued to death by the movie and TV industry. That's kind of what happened to ReplayTV, but I'm digressing . . . . Commercial Advance is quite good. SAV1 is quite good too. However, they make mistakes. If you allowed any system to automatically cut out (not just skip) commercials, you'd end up with some shows that would be unwatchable, in my opinion. You need to be able to jump back, or sometimes forward, to avoid the commercials and not lose part of the show. Then there is the issue that no video editor in release can directly take a WTV file. VideoReDo is getting close.

     Bye.

Can you comment a bit more on this?  I use VideoReDo, have been waiting for this and noted the recent betas indicate they can in fact edit .wtv files natively.  Have you tried v3.1.5.574 and if so what exactly doesn't work with regard to natively editing .wtv files?

Re: can't cut commercials outa wtv's?

Before the newest SAV1 and W7 addin, the way you would skip commercials in W7 was to have DVRMSToolbox first convert the WTV to the older format with the W7 built-in converter, then the old SA could locate the commercials and the addin would then know how to find them in the WTV. So, you would do the same thing, but then feed the converted show to the same editor you used before. You really need a Quad-core to handle the load for HD when doing this.

    Bye.

Though I have a VideoReDo license and dabble in W7 DVRs, I have not tried their newest beta that claims success with WTV. I was merely relaying some knowledge I picked up reading the VideoReDo forum on their progress with W7 compatibility. As I indicated earlier, I generally don't edit down WTV shows, though I have from time to time in the past, edited down old movies to DVD with no commercials. I used the Womble MPG editor that reads the ReplayTV generated cut lists and directly edits ReplayTV MPG files. I've always done this manually to be able to fine tune the results and eliminate mistakes made by Commercial Advance as used in the ReplayTV. In general, SAV1 and ReplayTV Commercial Advance are similar in results, which is a bit better than the BeyondTV SmartSkip I also use. None of them are perfect, nor can they ever be.

Release notes aren't for my benefit (they include a link to the non-EA version).

BTW, cutting up WTV files is not supported (yet).  One of the features of DVR-MS that MS didn't extend to WTV was the ability to easily cut them up.

Do anyone know if this issue has been figured out yet? I just upgraded to Win7 x64 and discovered that DTB doesn't have any plugins to cut the commercials out of the .wtv files. Hoping someone has a solution! :)

You can remove commercials from wtv when going to another container like mpg or mkv and retain the native streams, or as part of a conversion process.

If you prefer a UI use the DTBVideoEditor otherwise use ConvertVideoFile.  You can even hav the editor generate a custom profile that uses ConvertVideoFile because the action is very complex to setup properly.

Re: can't cut commercials outa wtv's?

My goal is to go from wtv to wmv format. Is there a way of stripping out the commercials in that process? Normally, I would cut out the commercials in the dvr-ms file, then convert the edited file to wmv format using dvrmstowmvhd. If you have a suggestion that works with the wtv -> wmv conversion, I would appreciate hearing it.

My option currently, is to use an external action to run the converter tool provided by Microsoft with Windows 7 to convert the wtv file to dvr-ms format, then use my standard actions to do the remaining commercial cutting, and processing of the file. If I can avoid the first conversion step, that would be nice.

    Thanks.

So how would you cut out the commercials using convertvideofile? Is there a way to cut the commercials in the wmv file?

Where do I find "convertvideofile"?  is that a profile or an actual application?
