    automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

     last night i tried implementing the method found in this engadget article:

    http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/02/24/how-to-automatically-download-and-import-hd-to-windows-media-cen/#comments

     i followed the directions and it doesnt seem to be workign the way its supposed to.  Lets assume that the uTorrent part is working and focus on the Dvr-msToolBox portion.

    my setup is slightly different from the article in the following ways:

    1) I have two systems.  my main media center system and my office computer.  I am actually running uTorrent and  Dvr-msToolBox on my office PC.
    2) my recorded and downloaded TV is stored on my NAS (\\Storagetower\recordedTV\DownloadedTV\)

    so i opened  DVRMStoMPEGSettings and chose "Convert MKV to DVR-MS - mencoder" and then went to the file watcher tab.  i changed the output directory to "\\storagetower\RecordedTV\".  and i changed the Watched Directories to "\\STORAGETOWER\RecordedTV\Downloaded TV\".

    so then i dropped an mkv file into \\STORAGETOWER\RecordedTV\Downloaded TV\ and started watchign the DVRMSFileWatcher.log in "C:\Users\Public\DvrmsToolbox" after a few seconds i saw the folloing line appear:
    "FW Begin Process \\STORAGETOWER\RecordedTV\Downloaded TV\24.S07E13.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION.mkv" ... so far so good.

    so I let it sit overnight and this morning I noticed that there was a file called 24.S07E13.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSIONfileprocess.mpg in my Output folder (\\storagetower\RecordedTV\), and I went into C:\Users\Public\DvrmsToolbox\FWLogs and opened "24.S07E13.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION.log"..
    the contents fo that file are below:

    Start Process: 3/11/2009 : 11:14 PM
    InputFile=\\STORAGETOWER\RecordedTV\Downloaded TV\24.S07E13.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION.mkv

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

    Ok i'm noticing two issues (possibly)

    First is the line "a52: CRC check failed! "                A CRC failure is never a good thing, and this line does not appear in my logs.  I'm not sure what to do with that if it's the problem.  However, the other issue I might be able to help you with.  Your log is completing after the query for metadata.  What you need to do is change the query from (?<series>.+)\.S(?<season>\d+)E(?<episodenbr>\d+)\.      to       (?<series>.+)\.[s,S](?<season>\d+)[e,E](?<episodenbr>\d+)\.

    I'll explain where.

     Open up DVRMSToolboxSettings, click on the Convert MKV to DVR-MS -mencoder and click "Edit Profile".

    Then,  click on the "Read metadata from TVdb......." and click Configure.  In the Extraction Regex, change

    (?<series>.+)\.S(?<season>\d+)E(?<episodenbr>\d+)\.              into               (?<series>.+)\.[s,S](?<season>\d+)[e,E](?<episodenbr>\d+)\.

    Also click on the "ContinueOnFail".    It stops the motion right there unfinished if there's nothing in the database, and I'd much rather have a completed file with no metadata than have wasted all that time to find out something was wrong with the release naming convention.  I can deal with having no metadata.  Clicking the continueonfail let's the convertion finish without the metadata.

     I'm going to post my log file so you can compare it to yours.  I may have not solved your problem and it'll give you somewhere to look.

     Quick note.  I have changed my setup a bit from the default.  I made it so it deletes the .mkv file in /recorded tv/ after the conversion is complete.  So keep that in mind when comparing log files.

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

     thanks for the reply - i have made those changes and hopefully it will help.  since postign my first problem, another file was processed andit looks liek it got further but still did not work correctly.

    thsi one was for an episode of fringe, and it created a file in the output folder called  "Fringe.S01E14.PROPER.720p.HDTV.x264-2HDfileprocess.mpg.xml" but thats it - no mpg file and no dvr-ms file.

     here is the log from that one:

    Start Process: 3/12/2009 : 9:39 AM
    InputFile=\\STORAGETOWER\RecordedTV\Downloaded TV\Fringe.S01E14.PROPER.720p.HDTV.x264-2HD.mkv

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

     I believe it's the way you've set up your directories that's causing the problem here.

     Your log file says this:

    Get the value of Context["OutputFile"] and set the value of Context["InputFile"]
    Context["OutputFile"] = \\storagetower\RecordedTV\Fringe.S01E14.PROPER.720p.HDTV.x264-2HDfileprocess.mpg
    Context["InputFile"] = \\storagetower\RecordedTV\Fringe.S01E14.PROPER.720p.HDTV.x264-2HDfileprocess.mpg
    Duration = 00:00:00.0009765
    Get the value of Context["OutputFile"] and set the value of Context["OutputFile"]
    Context["OutputFile"] = \\storagetower\RecordedTV\Fringe.S01E14.PROPER.720p.HDTV.x264-2HDfileprocess.mpg
    Context["OutputFile"] = \\storagetower\RecordedTV\Fringe.S01E14.PROPER.720p.HDTV.x264-2HDfileprocess.mpg
    Duration = 00:00:00.0009766

     My log file says this:

    Get the value of Context["OutputFile"] and set the value of Context["OutputFile"]
    Context["OutputFile"] = C:\Users\Public\DvrmsToolbox\Output\Fringe.S01E01.720p.HDTV.x264-E7fileprocess.mkv
    Context["OutputFile"] = C:\Users\Public\DvrmsToolbox\DTBTemp\Fringe.S01E01.720p.HDTV.x264-E7fileprocess.mpg
    Duration = 00:00:00.0070000
    Get the value of Context["InputFile"] and set the value of Context["OutputFolder"]
    Context["InputFile"] = C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\Fringe.S01E01.720p.HDTV.x264-E7.mkv
    Context["OutputFolder"] = C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\

    notice the changes.  You have to remember there's several different outputs, so you can't put them all in the same directory.  Mine is the default, but you'll notice there's an output directory and a temp directory, plus the /recorded tv directory, so that makes 3 total output directories.  You only have one directory so it spits out this error in your log file.

    "Run C:\Program Files\DVRMSToolbox\Applications\todvrms.exe "\\storagetower\RecordedTV\Fringe.S01E14.PROPER.720p.HDTV.x264-2HDfileprocess.mpg" "\\storagetower\RecordedTV\Fringe.S01E14.PROPER.720p.HDTV.x264-2HDfileprocess.mpg"
    Cannot create a file when that file already exists.

    I can't go into your settings and see how you have your directories setup, so it's hard to help, but take a look and you can see what i'm talking about.

    I recommend you go back to defaults....then change your directories making sure you have the same three the program requires, Output, DTBTemp, and Recorded TV

    I cant get this to work.

    How do I tell FileWatcher to execute the mkv to dvrms script?  When I dump a file in the watched folder, all it wants to do is strip commercials.

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

    Something in your file processing conditioner settings is not set up correctly. Go into the .mkv settings in the fileprocessing conditioner settings and makesure it is upgraded to the top of the list and that the format for your condition is setup correctly, IE: "Fileext = .mkv". If this does not work make sure you added .mkv to the watched file directory in your DVRMStoolBoxsettings.

     Hope this helps

    What did you enter for code in the fileprocessing conditioner to get it to delete the file from the inputfolder. I would like the file in the DBTTemp folder and the original in my Recorderd TV folder deleted, but am hesitant to try it with out knowing the correct code. Im not a programmer.

    Thanks for the help

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

    This is done by editing the profiles, which requires no programming skills. If it makes you feel better, use the move to recycle bin action. But for this to work as expected you'll want to set the DVrmsToolbox File Watcher service to run as your user account otherwise you won't be able to easily restore the files.

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

    To delete .mkv after conversion:

     Go into the  DVRMSToolboxSettings, edit the "Convert MKV to DVR-ms" profile.

     After the "Run Mencoder" action is an action involving 'moving a file to a directory' (i forget what it is as i've changed it......but highlight the action right after "run mencoder" and select configure.

    Change the WhatOperation to "Delete"

    You'll may want to do the same thing to the AVI to dvr-ms profile as well.

    Now, only do this if you have the rest set up correctly, including the metadata stuff.   You wouldn't want the .mkv file deleted if the entire process failed because the metadata wasn't queried properly.   That's why I recommended the "continueonfail" during the metadata query in my earlier postings

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

    Thankss. Got everythng figured out..... Almost!

    It converts MKV files just fine.  I dump a file in the watched folder and  an hour later it pops up as a dvrms in MCE.  Same for AVI files.  However, it seems to scale 4:3 AVI files  so that they fill the screen of my 16:9 TV.  Sort like watching stretch-o-vision.

    Is there any way turn this scaling off?  I'vee tried tweaking numerous settings that seem like they might control this but so far, no luck.

     ben helped me with this one.

     are you using a 360? if so there's no fix for it other than to use Zoom 3 on your xbox 360.

    If you have a 360 remote, push "info", go down to zoom and change it.

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

    I'm watching it on the MCE machine. No extender.

    That brings up another point. The H resolution setting for memcoder says "MPEG2 Video AC3 audio- for xbox360 encoding". Should I select a different setting?

    Re: automatically download and import HD to Windows Media Center - not working

    That is just what it is called. The 360 is more sensitive than your media center so when it was created it was tested on the 360. You can tweak your own settings if you want though.
