CommercialSkipAddIn not Showing in Eventlog on Vista Ultimate

    Hi,

I have installed the lates version of the DVRMSToolbox, I have installed on two Vista machines. One (my HTPC) doesn't skip the ads. Both of them are creating xml's. And when I copy the xml's from the non-working HTPC to my other PC the ads are skipped.

I believe the issuse is the HTPC does not have the addin installed correctly even though I followed all the guided on this site. I verified all files existed even compared the file syetem from both machines both exactly the same.  The HTPC does not raise an event in the log like below that is on my other PC.  Is there a definative way I can verify that all is installed correctly on my broken HTPC. The main differences is that I have installed all Hotfixes including optional ones on the HTPC. All the lates.Net frameworks are installed on both. Any ideas? Also how can I turn up the logging on the CommercialSkipAddIn as I have enabled the debug=1 on the HTPCbut can't find the location of the logs for it.

Dunno if it will help but you might try re-registering proppage.dll like this guy:

Yes I tried that too but the hotfix mentied is for x64 XP I am running x86 Vista. Some more info, I shutdown the ehmsas.exe reran VMC and waited, then ran a recording, waited, then no skipping, I have an xml file and still no joy.  The ehexthost_xxx.log has:

    1/03/2009 8:49:30 AM : Microsoft.MediaCenter.Hosting.AddInHost
    1/03/2009 8:49:30 AM : MRE created

Update: I uninstalled one of the hotfixes mentioned in a previous thread, uninstalled, rebooted then reinstalled, rebooted then reregistered the proppage.dll. Still no luck with commercial skipping but I do get an entry in the event log on VMC startup. I have verified the install and everything looks in order.

if you get the event, the addin is registered.  Unfortunately, the most likely cause (msas being broken) isn't easy to fix.  You can enable MSAS logging (see the wiki), you don't get anything useful this is the problem.

There are several suggested solutions in the forum (if you're able to isolate when it broke, often a system restore will put it right).  I've had to rebuild Vista the couple times I experienced it personally.
