I end up with a dvr-ms file which is about 1/8th the size of the wtv file and is strictly pure audio and no video. After reading through many posts, I tried some older versions of todvrms.exe and got version 1.0.0.9 to work, but it has a problem with reporting the correct video length. I get sound and video and VLC media player can play it, but other media players freak out over the incorrect reported link and won't play it. For example I converted a 28:34 long wtv file and the dvr-ms file reports that it's 7:23:34 long. BUT it's really not and the video plays fine in VLC. I'm still running on Windows VISTA x64. So, my questions are, why does the lattest version of todvrms.exe only convert the audio and nothing else? And why does the older version (1.0.0.9) work, but puts an incorrect length of file tag on it?

Am I overlooking something simple? Any help would be much appreciated!

MPG (from .tivo) to DVR-MS conversion problem?

I have a Series 3 TiVo that records from FIOS via cable card. I am using KMTTG to grab show / movie from TiVo and decode to MPG. I can play the MPG file via Pictures and Videos fine either on the MCE or via 360 extender. I then attempt to convert to DVR-MS with todvrms. It appears to complete successfully. When I attempt to play the resulting file via Recorded TV it plays audio for a few seconds and the video almost immediately freezes. It plays blips every 10-15 seconds but nothing useable. I am using todvrms 1.0.1.4 from the 1.2.2.1 dvrmstoolbox install. This is on Windows 7 MCE. Below is the output of -v in case it has anything useful in it. I grabbed a 10 minute clip from HDNet to test with and can make it available for download if it would be useful. I am pretty sure I used to be able to do this with OTA content but I know that was a few versions ago of todvrms.

Is this even achievable in managed code?

Carlos

PS: I did try to use DVRMSTOWMVHD to convert a .wtv file but it seems to go
into an infinite loop, enumerating CLSIDs of filter names to console.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get the source to compile as it seems to be
missing all the header files in the main project? (I installed the
DirectShow base classes from the windows SDK as required) Do you have the full source available, including headers?

PPS: My end users will ALWAYS be running windows 7, so it's safe to
assume all related APIs and win7 DirectShow updates exist

Problems with todvrms.exe for WTV to DVR-MS

I have been trying to get todvrms.exe to convert my wtv files to dvr-ms. When I run todvrms on a wtv file, I get audio only on the file, and it is only about 100 MB for a half-hour video. Is there a splitter that I'm missing? This crashes somewhere in the AttributeEnable.ax filter. I don't have source or symbols so the function names shown for that image are bogus.

I was naive and thought CCextractor would work out of the box, however I was sorely mistaken. Long story short, I need to be able to extract captions out of all WTV files that I record.. so that they are searchable. I tried to convert WTV to DVRMS with the official Windows 7 tool (menu option) and WTVwatcher but this does not help with making CCextractor work, and I get the same result, no captions.

So far, unfortunately, I've only been able to find people with theories on how it could be done, without finding anyone who's actually been able to do it.

I'm not a programmer, and don't have time to become one for this issue. Unfortunately, this is a deal-breaker for me right now with Windows 7, if this doesn't work, I have to suck it up and downgrade back to Windows Vista... something I really was hoping I wouldn't have to do with my new solid-state drive.

mkv to .wtv dvb subtitles?

Is there any way to pipe the subtitle tracks of a mkv into a wtv file? How would I go about converting the subtitles into a 'dvb' compatible format?

Cut commercials and convert to mpeg

The default profile for this is converting the show without any audio. I'm looking for the fastest transcoding possible/practical for my older hardware.

The short story is I've been using GB-PVR to record and transcode shows to play on my Samsung P3. Right now I have GB-PVR transcoding to Xvid files, which end up being ~500MB for a 60 minute show. The conversion takes ~45 minutes for a 60 minute show, which is acceptable for my situation. The whole thing is running on an older system: P4 2.66Ghz, 2GB RAM.

I just moved to Windows 7 and want to make the switch to Media Center, particularly since I'm looking at buying a Acer Revo to use as an HTPC. The only thing remaining before I make the full switch is I need to get the transcoding of my shows working well from the Media Center side of things. If I can get that going, I'm moving full speed ahead with WMC.

I've got everything installed, and tried a test conversion last night using the mencoder profile (although I removed the commerical detection and removal actions to make it more comparable to what I do in GB-PVR), selecting Xvid for the video format. I ran it (with priority set to Above Normal) and let it go to 50% figuring I could double that conversion time to get a rough estimate. It took 60 minutes to get to 50%, so I'm assuming the full conversion would take 120 minutes, almost triple what it takes the way I'm doing it currently in GB-PVR.

I'm sure DVRMSToolbox can do what I can do now using GB-PVR and more, I'm just new to it all and not sure what the best options available are. I'm not tied to Xvid, the P3 supports a ton of formats, it's just what was practical as far as conversion time versus quality. Can someone provide me some guidance on the best way to proceed? Unfortunately, my work life is sucking a ton of my time right now so I don't have a lot of time to just try a bunch of options, especially if veterans of the software can provide me some guidance.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Transcode WMV to WTV or DVR-MS

Hello,

I'm having trouble trying to create either a .WTV or .DVR-MS file from my WMV file. The WMV is a MPEG2 video which I would like to view in the Media Center native recorded tv gallary. I saw dvrmstoolbox supports transcode from MKV to WTV so i assumed WMV is also supported.

Here is the log ... basically, i think the graph fails to build:

C:\Program Files\DVRMSToolbox\Applications>todvrms.exe "c:\TEMP\A-Team.wmv" "c:\TEMP\A-Team.wtv" -v -wtv
Source filter GUID: 187463a0-5bb7-11d3-acbe-0080c75e246e
Get stream pin
Find Video pin
Add AttributeEnable Filter
Connect source to AE pin
Connect first pin
Add VA Filter
Error: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040217): No combination
of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection.
 at DirectShowLib.DsError.ThrowExceptionForHR(Int32 hr)
 at babgvant.todvrms.SBEHelper.Convert()
No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection.
arg[0] = c:\TEMP\A-Team.wmv
arg[1] = c:\TEMP\A-Team.wtv
arg[2] = -v
arg[3] = -wtv

Is it possible to do this kind of transcode?

The output video 320MB vs the original 350MB. When playing the output video, the sound starts jittering almost immediately then cuts out, followed shortly by the video ceasing to advance in time. Skipping back/forward does nothing. Same thing in WMP, VLC, and MPC.

The original plays fine in all of the above. This particular *.mpg has been postprocessed in VideoReDo (QS fix + ad cut) but that should make it more robust, not less. I observe the same artifacts if I feed the raw *.ts file straight from the tuner into ToDvrms.

However, I am not sure which is the fastest. Speed is important but I am not worried about loss of quality.
I am recording OTA broadcasts of CBS, ABC, PBS, etc. The goal is to view the transcoded videos on my TV.

Any suggestions on which transcode would be the fastest?
wtv to mpeg
wtv to wmv
dvrms to mpeg
etc etc etc

I am having trouble with some MKVs (MakeMKV so MPG/AC3) to DVR-MS. Verbose logging doesn't give me much to go off of. Basically the reported time is more than double the length of the movie and fixduration.exe? doesn't seem to correct it. The video plays and I have FF and REW, but the time being out of whack is somewhat irritating, I can't just edit duration with an editor so I was going to try and tinker and see what might be causing the miscalculation.

todvrms metadata

First of all, Andy thanks for all of your tools! My HTPC experience would be totally different without them.

I'm using todvrms in a batch script to convert my optical DVDs to dvr-ms files. It's streamlined and works perfectly for me. The only issue is when the titles get played back they are processed and searched for commercials. My workaround was to set a unique WM/OriginalReleaseTime with todvrms and then setup a processing condition to look for this unique WM/OriginalReleaseTime and do nothing when it sees these files. This works no problem, but feels a little hacky. If you have plans in the future to improve todvrms you might consider adding another option which would add WM/ToolName to the metadata so that this could be checked like all the other files processed by DTB. No need to respond just something to consider for a future release. Thanks again!

Dumb Question - Automation

This might be posted elsewhere I did a search and came up with nothing.

First time I tried to convert my .m2ts file it outputted about 4.5gigs and at the last moment of process the file size reduced to 4 gigs and when it plays, its just a black screen with sound..

After that, I tried another and, when I press go, black window pops up and then disappears after 3 or so seconds

Havent even bothered trying the 360 playback yet... Cant take the disappointment. :(

I'm using todvrms.exe (successfully - Thanks by the way) to convert from .wtv to dvrms.

My problem is I need to be able to use the subtitles as well on the converted files. I'm using version 1.0.0.9 and it states:

subtitles: optional, copies line21 subtitles into the output file; requires Haali Video Sink

So I think this might be a dumb question but where do I find Haali Video Sink? I have MatroskaSplitter installed and still when I use the GUI and select my subtitles they do not appear in the options when I right click in media center. Is there something I am missing?

audio sync issues when trying to transcodeMkv files

Hi Guys,

Apologies if my question seems like a bit of a tangent however I was hoping I could ask for some advise regarding the transcoding of Mkv files to an extender using Windws MediaCentre. I appreciate this is not drectly related to the DVR=MS Toolbox however I foundout about the toolbox while trying to obtain a solution to my problem. My next step will be to use the toolbox if I am not able to successfully fix the audio sync issues.

I use Transcode360 in conjunction with MedaCentre (MediaBrowser) to stream/transcde files that are not natively supported by my extenders (Mkv for instance). I have the setup working great apart from a slight audio synce issue when transcoding Mkv files, I have done a lot of research on this but unfortunately have not been able to find a solution. Transcode 360 does have an option to adjust the audio sync but it doesnt seem to work and the app is no longer supported. I ru Windows 7 RTM 64 and have also tried the divx tec preview but this only supports specificH.264 formats.

I was interested to see that the dowload section of this site has a custom Mencoder.exe app so I was wondering if this can be tweaked in any way (config files) to allow for audio adjustments?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, I will try the toolbox to convert to DVR-MS as my next step Iwas just curious to see if there was a way aroung this to save on conversion time?

Kind Regards

Tylor
