Vista x86 DVRMSToolbox 1.2.0.6 - unable to process dvrms file

    Here's the error I get:

Processing actions, this may take some time!!
    Profile = dvrmstompg
    ProcessId = 4364
    DvrmsToolbox Version: 1.2.0.6

    Waiting to process...
    Processing now...
Output DVR-MS file as one MPEG stream
    Conversion Started: d:\Recorded TV\Dora the Explorer_Boots Special Day.dvr-ms to G:\ProcessingSpace\Dora the Explorer_Boots Special Day.mpg

    Action did not complete successfully
    Total Duration = 00:00:07.0050000

The file in question is a PAL analog capture, 720X576.

I tried to get Crunchie to work with the new toolbox, and basically every file failed to process. When I went to do them manually, that's the error I get.

    regsvr32 c:\program files\dvrmstoolbox\dvr2wmv.dll

    Right, thanks :)

Re: Vista x86 DVRMSToolbox 1.2.0.6 - unable to process dvrms file

I am getting this same error, although it's when I try and just convert a DVR-MS file to MPG. Per the advice, I went in and registered MpgMux.ax, however, I had to do so in a different location than suggested. Specifically:

The forums suggested from a command prompt that I should type "regsvr32 C:\system32\mpgmux.ax" but I instead had to type "regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\mpgmux.ax" as that's where i found the file. This reported success but I still continue to get the same error in DVR-MS toolbox. Another of the forums on this site suggested I go get the mpgmux.ax files from somewhere else (a link led me to the mediaportal forums), so I did, copied it in to my system32 folder, and that doesn't seem to have done anything.

I took the CLSID from the error log and searched my registry for it; nothing came up. I searched my registry for mpgmux.ax, and it found it, but in a seemingly random place and not at all tied to DVR-MS toolbox. I rebooted just in case. Same problem.

    In short:

    • Vista Home Premium on a single core 32 bit machine (Athlon 3000+ w/ 1.5GB RAM)
    • mpgmux.ax is in C:\Windows\system32
    • Registering this file reports success but doesn't seem to do so correctly
    • CLSID in error log is not in registry at all
    • I am flummoxed

    Help!

    Thank you in advance!

I also ran into this problem in Vista, but found a different solution. It seems that when UAC is turned on, regsvr32 will fail with some strange error. Here's how I fixed the problem:

    1. Turn off UAC
      1. Run (Win+R): msconfig
      2. Select the "Tools" tab
      3. Select the "Disable UAC" tool
      4. Click the "Launch" button
      5. Close the command window that pops up
      6. Click the "OK" button to close the "System Configuration" window.
      7. Reboot
    2. Register the failing ax files
      1. Run (Win+R): regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpgmux.ax
      2. Run (Win+R): regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\cldump.ax

You should be able to run DVRMSToolbox now. I haven't tried running it with UAC turned back on, but it's probably a good idea to not leave UAC off if you can help it.

Woohoo! It worked, and started the process to convert to MPG. Progress!

It did hang at 49.87%, although I'd bet that's a different issue worthy of its own research...so off I go.

    Thanks again for the help!

You dont need to fiddle with UAC to get this to work. You need to open a command prompt as the administrator by selecting start/prgrams/accessories/command prompt and right click and select run as administrator. N.B.on Vista even if you're logged in as an administrator all processes on vista run as a normal user unless you elevate them as per the above. Once you have the administrative command prompt open then you can register the files using regsvr32 as per the previous message and you're done.

Woohoo, it's now working on vista. I can convert files to mpeg easily

    This is what to do:

    1. Open a command prompt as administrator (as described in the previous post)

    2. Write: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpgmux.ax   And press enter
    - A dialog box will open telling you it worked.

    3. Write: regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\cldump.ax    And press enter
    - A dialog box will open and tell you it worked

    4. It's all done, you can now convert to mpeg....

Re: Vista x86 DVRMSToolbox 1.2.0.6 - unable to process dvrms file

    Hi,

Sorry to have to bother everyone again, but this methodology worked for me at one point, then it stopped. I could really use some help. Brief recap of steps so far and status:

After a bunch of messing around with registering mpgmux.ax and CLDump.ax, I finally got the registry set right once. This did a pretty good job with making MPG files from my analog recordings (i.e., those made from my PVR-150MCE card), and tanked on all of my ATSC/HD recordings (hanging at very low percentages during conversion to MPG). The forums here gave me the idea that I could try other versions of mpgmux.ax and CLDump.ax and that that's where the root of the problem is.

I started by trying to find other versions of MpgMux.ax and CLdump.ax. I've found several iterations, including:

    • The copy included with DVR-MS ToolBox
    • Copies from a MediaPortal forum
    • Copies from a DVB European program (forget the name)
    • Copies included with my purchased copy of BeyondTV
    • A copy (mpgmux only) from "tsconverter" software

Nothing seems to have worked--I don't think--but trying to register a new copy of mpgmux.ax has been darn near impossible. Once I unregister either file, I get back to that same 800410 error. So here is problem #1:

What steps do I take to register a new version of mpgmux.ax and cldump.ax? I have tried:

    • Unregistering (multiple times) both files by typing Win + R, then "regsvr32 -u c:\windows\system32\mpgmux.ax" (and same for CLDump), still the same error, then if after this I re-register both files, same error
    • Typing Win + R, then "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\mpgmux.ax" and get a successful message (still the same error from DTb)
    • Doing this same thing for CLDump.ax (same error from DTb)
    • Searching the registry for the CLSID that is reported by DVR-MS ToolBox (search comes up empty)
    • Manually deleting all references in the registry to mpgmux.ax (DVR-MS then auto-configures and prompts a restart, then gives the same error)

The only thing that seems to work to get around this error is to perform a full System Restore to the point of first installation of DVR-MS Toolbox. Even then, I can only get it to work with the default mpgmux.ax and CLdump.ax. What am I doing wrong? If I search the registry and there are no references to mpgmux.ax, then it's not registered, correct? Then how is it that re-registering this file after I've cleaned the registry still produces an "unregistered" error?

And problem #2: If I have a registered version of mpgmux.ax and it does OK with analog but tanks with HD files, what can I do? Is there something that needs to be set or tweaked to get DVR-MS ToolBox to play nice with HD specifically?

It seems as though DTb was meant to work with ATSC/HD files out of the box, but am I wrong about that?

For the record, I have UAC disabled entirely and have performed all actions with Administrative privileges either using 'Windows + R' to get an Admin command prompt, or right-clicking and selecting 'Run as Administrator' to run. I'm likely overzealous with this, but I've had lack of admin privileges be a problem in the past.

    Other details:

Windows Vista Home Premium / Two DVICO Fusion Gold HDTV cards / One PVR-150MCE analog card

Thanks in advance for your help!

Never mind, I got it fixed... got it back registered via System Restore, and got AVIVO installed as my mpg muxer.

the AVIVO muxer appears to be a much better muxer than the one that is used by default... i will be adding mencoder as an option for conversion to mpeg soon, should make it much easier as it not dshow based.

you can also just run a command prompt as administrator and then perform steps 2.1 and 2.2. worked for me.
