Decoder error for blu-ray ripped to compressed wtv

I am using ARnC to convert my blu-ray library to compressed wtv files. Everything is properly installed as far as I can tell (AnyDVD, MakeMKV, Handbrake, Haali, etc.). The most current versions of all the software are installed. I am running windows 7 x64. The problem is that the final product will not play in MC7, but will play in windows media player. Is there a fix to this problem? I have seen other people post this problem in other threads and have seen no solution. Please help! Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry... I'm not sure of any fix to the problem. It may be a codec issue, but I am not really sure. I do know that codecs are different for 32-bit players and 64-bit players. Windows Media Player is a 32-bit player and Windows Media Center is a 64-bit player (on Windows 7 x64), which would explain why it would play in one and not the other. Other than that I don't really have any answers...

One thing you could try to mess around with is this: http://bit.ly/91iYOh - And maybe try to reset to the defaults, but I'm not really sure if it would help or not.

Thank you for the advice, but it did not work for me. As far as I can tell the haali splitter used for decoding mkv files is installing as 32-bit, the site says there is a 64-bit version (that I can't figure out how to install). All I really want to be able to do is rip and compress the blu-rays in a fashion that allows for ff/rew control via WMC7 and extenders. If you or anybody has any advise or suggestions, please pass them along.

Haali splitter automatically installs 64-bit or 32-bit from the same installer. I'm not really sure what can be done... Have you tried playing the same file that you are having trouble with on a different Windows 7 machine?

Re: Decoder error for blu-ray ripped to compressed wtv

I have tried it on a couple of my windows 7 pc's.  I believe it may be an issue with how handbrake is handling the compression of the file.  I have done several rips and conversions using auto rip and compress, and no matter the media if i compress to wtv it gives me the same "Decoder Error".  I have also tried altering the settings in handbrake externally, but it seems as though ARnC controls Handbrake completely.  I dont know what to do.  I am about to the point of ripping all of my blu-rays uncompressed and building a super media server to store them all.

Nope.  I've given up on trying to make it work.  Rip only DVDs now.

Re: Decoder error for blu-ray ripped to compressed wtv

Sorry to hear.  Have found myself encountering the same issue lately and was hoping there since has been a fix.  Am curious how a Bluray converted to .mkv differs from a TV show ripped to .mkv.  Any 720p tv .mkv can be converted to .wtv with todvrsms without any issue.  Seems that those in Bluray 720 mkv format convert to .wtv without error only Windows 7 Media Center is unable to play them back after the conversion has completed.  Returns a Video Decoder Error.
