My shows aren't being fully converted

Hi folks - new poster here and I'm hoping someone can help me.  I have a Windows 7 Media Center, and I'm trying to set things up so all of the shows I record are automatically transcoded to work on my Zune (actually, my Windows Phone, but I'm assuming that transcoding to Zune will be fine for this).

DVRMSToolbox seems great, and I have it processing files -- I tried both the convert to zune (no commercials) profile, as well as that profile but removing the commercial skip step.  Both times, the files I get output are not the full show.  They just stop in the middle.  I have the logs saved if that would be useful (not sure how to attach them though) - it does appear that several of them are failing before 100%.  Can someone help me?

I feel so close to having this working...thanks again.

     Larry

Please post an example log for a show that didn't work. Just paste the text here.

sccr -- my apologies for such a delayed response. I was forced to stop tinkering for a bit during Thanksgiving.  I've gone back to my computer but I'm not sure how to get and example log.  I usually test by running the program overnight, but every time I come down in the morning the window is gone.  Are the logs stored somewhere?

    Thanks again.

Can you just run an example in the gui?  The window shouldn't close unless the program crashes I suppose.

Ok I got it.  I ended up doing a batch conversion with lots that failed, so below is a paste of the final two as best as I can tell.  Thanks again for your help!

Re: My shows aren't being fully converted

Sccr -- I just realized that maybe the issue is because I currently have the output folder on my home server (a different computer than my Media Center - the one doing the processing).

I'm currently running tests keeping the output folder on the same machine and they are looking promising.  I'll report back with how it works...

Assuming it does work, I took a look in the settings UI for profiles and it looks as though there is already a MoveOutputFile step....if I want to move the files to another folder, do I also need to move any metadata files (i.e. commerical related, etc...)?

     Thanks again.

Let us know how it goes.  You shouldn't have to move anything else.

Success!  The three shows I converted last night all ran completely.  Exciting stuff....thanks again for your help Sccr.

Now it's play (optimization) time...what I'd like to do is the following:

For each show my Media Center records, remove commericals from the full-res versions that are stored on the Media Center and also generate no-commercial versions in Zune format.  I'll want to move the Zune conversions to a folder on another computer, and may or may not want to move the full-res versions to another computer too (I have to decided if I want to delete the originals).

Is the best way to do this to start with the convert to dvrms, remove commercials, and output commercial xml profile, then tack on a convert function (with the same parameters as the convert to zune profile)?

    Thanks again!

One other item -- it'd be pretty neat if i could automatically keep the Zune files in sync with the full-res files -- that is, when I delete a full res file, also delete the Zune conversion. This would let me always keep the tv shows I have in Zune format in sync with the MC, meaning I could use the MC as a management interface for my Zune files. I'm assuming that's beyond the reach of the toolbox, but if you have any software or script pointers you might recommend, I'd really appreciate it. :)

I do the same thing. I created an app to do this type of syncing. Currently it doesn't run as a service or anything but may someday. Give the GUI a try and if you like it, I'll tell you how to run it from the command line and you can setup a schedule task to run it every night. It will show a delete confirmation window when running through the GUI before it deletes. This is use at your own risk as it has only been tested and used by me. http://cid-fc502126faae22c3.office.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/FolderSync%201.0.2.zip

Yeah, I would say if your goal is to convert everything to Zune's format then tacking the convert function on should be fine. If you would like to only convert certain shows you may want to setup some processing conditions and I can help with that. Just let me know.

Re: My shows aren't being fully converted

Thanks Sccr - I'll give the file sync a try and let you know what happens.

In the meantime, I haven't found documentation of each of the existing profile components to be able to figure out how to get the profile I'm shooting for.  Can you help and/or can you give me a hand constructing what I want?

    Here's what I tried:

I started with the 'remove commercials, output dvrms & comm xml, move to recorded tv' profile, then tried to add a "convert a video file", but when I did that most of the options for it were read only (so I couldn't set them to what was used in Convert for Zune).  In addition, I couldn't find what context variables I'm supposed to set to define the input of the video convert = to the output of the move from the first convert, and to specify the output location of the zune conversion file...

In the meantime, I'm having problems getting my profile to work and the wiki doesn't seem to have the documentation I need...can you help me find the right docs and/or construct the profile?

     Here's what I tried:

I started with the remove commercials, output dvrms & comm xml, move to recorded tv profile -- then I tried to add the convert to video action to the end as defined in the convert to zune profile.  However, the convert to video action settings were mostly read only and I couldn't figure out how to match what's in the Zune profile.  Finally, I couldn't find what context variables to set to define the input for the convert video to be the previous output (sans commericals), and the output for the convert video to be where I want the zune files to go....

     I think we're getting close....thanks :)
