    Converting .wtv to mkv Questions

I am trying to automate my whole recorded tv process. I want to cut out the commercial of my OTA wtv files and convert to mkv. I downloaded 1.2.2.0. I open the DVRMSToolboxGUI. In the Process File tab, I select the wtv file I want to cut/encode in the "Input File" section. I specify in  the "Output file" section the mkv file name I want. I then choose the "High Quality MKV no Commercials" profile and click Run. The process takes two seconds, tells me no commercials were found, and then tells me action did not complete. Right now the only way I can figure out how to get what I want is to manually convert the .wtv to .dvrms (right click on .wtv and click convert), then use DVRMSToolboxGUI and run the profile "Cut out commercials convert to mpeg". I then take the resulting mpeg and use handbrake to convert to mkv. I assume that DVRMSToolboxGUI should be able to do this all, but I can't get it to work and didn't see anything specific in the Wiki. My log for the failed "High Quality MKV no Commericals" is below. Thanks.

Only SAS can scan wtv files, you need to convert the file to a format that comskip can scan (dvr-ms, or mpg) before the profile can continue.

Makes sense. I have been looking at SAS, any thoughts (aside from converting wtv automatically) about its performance vs a free app like Comskip (is paying for SAS going to produce a better product or more accurate commercial detection in your opinion).

Also, I did test the same profile (high quality mkv no commercial) on dvrms and it still fails to convert to mkv. I assume i must be missing a step somewhere?

I liked SAS enough to buy it twice.  Haven't tried comskip in a while, but last time I did SAS was much faster and had the same level of accuracy.

It takes about 3 min to scan a 60 min HD MPEG on my HTPC.

That profile was designed to work with Sage recordings, not sure I ever tested it with MC (DVR-MS/WTV).

Thanks, I will definitely take a look into SAS.

In theory assuming I have a DVR-MS I could run the profile to cut out commercials/convert to MPEG, and then once the MPEG is created run the profile to convert to high quality mkv (I think SageTV records to MPEG but I haven't had a chance to reinstall of my PC after I did a clean reinstall of W7)?. Once again, thanks,

     Cheers

    Damian
