Errors while trying to convert Mkv to DVRMS

    Hi Guys,

Firstly thanks for the amazing set of apps - extremely useful :-)

I was wondering if someone here could possibly help with an error I receive when trying to convert a MKV file to DVRMS so I can playback on my extender. This seems to be the only way in which to get HD MKV content on my extender as transcoding causes lip sync issues and the divx tech preview doesnt seem to work on my Windows 7 RTM 64 bit machine..

I followed the guide at hack7mc.com which advised to change some of the profile settings in the Convert MKV to DVR-MS - mencoder profile as detailed Here -->http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/03/convert-mkvs-to-dvr-ms-for-media-center.html

After making the necessary changes I receive the following error in my log file, I'm sure this will be something simple I am doing wrong but I just wondered if one of the Guru's here could help point this out. (I think the conversion is looking for a file somewhere else on my HD which doesnt exist)

Re: Errors while trying to convert Mkv to DVRMS

    Any suggestions guys?

(After reading a few posts on the forum I think this may be realted to the fact I am running a 64bit OS). I get the mencoderproper failed error after pressing run to convert the files.

Is there a way around this, I am very keen to test the conversion to see if I am able to keep my HD quality files but achieve extender playback.

    Thanks in advance

Not sure if Andres ever got Memcoder Proper working on 64bit, but the file name is also incorrect for TheTVDB action.

    Instead of

Heroes - S03E01 - (Volume Three- Villains) The Second Coming.mkv

    It should be

    Heroes.S03E01.VolumeThree-Villains.The.Second.Coming.mkv

There is a new TV profile in the latest EA that converts mkv tv shows to wtv so mencoder proper isn't needed, give that a try.

    Thanks for the reply,

I am keen to give this new Tv profile a try, what is it called and is wtv a new format? will this play natively on an extender?

It's called "Convert MKV TV Show to WTV" and WTV is the replacement extension for dvr-ms in Windows 7 and the Vista TV Pack. The main advantage as far as I'm concerned is that it can contain H.264. It can also work with Dolby Digital Plus, but not much content out there that uses that yet and no free encoder is available yet.

That sounds like it might do the trick, I'm guessing this must be in the 1.2.19 version of dvrms toolbox as I can't see that profile in my copy.

Is there a way I can download the exe version or does it have to be compiled from source, i d have visual studio but have only cmpiled MediaBrowser in the past

Yes it's in the latest EA build so you'd have to donate to the project to get it before it's released.

I'm having the same problem.  Did you find that the Early Access version fixed the issue?

     Thanks!

Re: Errors while trying to convert Mkv to DVRMS

    I have made progress bradg,

Not sure you need to have the EA build as Andy advised me to use corflag.exe to update the flag setting in mencoderproper.exe to force it to run as a 32 bit application. Check my thread below for more details.

After using the corflag tweak I no longer receive the mencoderproper error and the profile does now run. Unfortunately I seem to have issues playing the output (dvr-ms file) on my linksys extender but I am hopeful I can overcome this..

Thanks for the quick reply tylor.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty slow with this whole corflags thing.  Would you mind giving a bit more explanation as to how you pulled it off?

    Thanks,

    -Brad

Re: Errors while trying to convert Mkv to DVRMS

Ok the way I did this,

Copy MencoderProper.exe (found in the application folder in your dvrmstoolbox install) into the following location [well this is where my corflag.exe was]

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bin\

open up a cmd command and change the directory to that path

    cd "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\Bin\"

    now type coreflag.exe /32+ /force MencoderProper.exe

to test if this has worked type corflag.exe mencoderproper.exe and it shouldbring up the stats of the mencoderproper file and it should have a 1 next to the 32bit flag. If the above has worked simply copy the altered mencoderproper.exe over the top of the original.

Re: Errors while trying to convert Mkv to DVRMS

Thanks tylor.  I hadn't thougt of copying mencoderproper.exe into the bin folder and then pasting it back (I renamed the original mencoderproper.exe just incase I ever need to revert).  I followed the steps, and it seems to be working now (or, at least it's not stopping like it did last time).

For anyone else who happens to be following the post, I kept getting an "Error CF001" or something.  If you get this, you need to be sure to run cmd as an Administrator.

     Thanks again tylor!
