Ah, you were being literal, not metaphorical. There are automated ways to actually cut out commercials by using automation from DVRMSToolbox and one of the compatible editors that takes a cut list from SAV1 and literally removes the commercials. I've not researched it, but I'm guessing you might find some scripts or settings on this web site to do just that. However, I don't recommend it. Why did I just say that? I've been using VCRs and then ReplayTVs for recording and watching TV for many years. The VCRs I had (actually, my wife still has one) had Commercial Advance and ReplayTVs have Commercial Advance. Commercial Advance is a patented method of detecting and automatically skipping commercials. Though not actually illegal, any company who might think to sell a DVR with true Commercial Advance would be sued to death by the movie and TV industry. That's kind of what happened to ReplayTV, but I'm digressing . . . . Commercial Advance is quite good. SAV1 is quite good too. However, they make mistakes. If you allowed any system to automatically cut out (not just skip) commercials, you'd end up with some shows that would be unwatchable, in my opinion. You need to be able to jump back, or sometimes forward, to avoid the commercials and not lose part of the show. Then there is the issue that no video editor in release can directly take a WTV file. VideoReDo is getting close.
Bye.
