    Commercial Skip add-in not responding

I'm using the latest version (1211) for vista (Ultimate 32-bit).  Everything installs fine.  I've tried uninstalling/re-installing, but no luck.  I've turned on debugging everywhere and it shows that it starts up fine when I start media center, but nothing logs (in app log anyway) when a show starts.

I've read through most (if not all) of the forums looking for this exact problem and the one that comes closest talks about MSAS problems with other add-ins.  I don't think i have any other add-ins installed (unless something did it without asking).  This was working before but stopped.  I dont see any error messages, it just doesn't respond to anything.

Is there a way to tell what add-ins are installed? Or a way to track what MSAS is calling/failing on? Or is there something else I should be checking?

Thanks in advance for any help.

OK.  I did some more digging.  I found what add-ins are installed by digging around the registry.  I had Nero, WebGuide and Commercial Skip installed.  I uninstalled all 3, rebooted, and installed DTB again, but it still will not respond to keystrokes in playback mode.

Is there possibly a problem with Vista SP1 and Commercial Skip?  Has anyone else got it working on SP1?

I had exactly the same problem. Everything worked ok but no response on keystrokes inside Vista Media Center. I tested every released version of DVRMSToolbox, automatic and manual install, different setups during install but nothing worked. For the moment I have postponed DVRMSToolbox because I can not get it to work.

I have Vista without SP1 so I do not think that is the problem. What language version of Vista do you have? Because I have Swedish version and I guess that could be a problem because the install path are defaulted to C:\Program and not C:\Program Files.

I have English version, so it installs in Program Files.

I'm sure you've checked this, but I assume you do have "handle keys" turned on in the DVRMSToolbox Settings, MC Addin tab?

When you say everything works except for key handling, does it skip commercials automatically, just you can't control the addin while it is running?

     Yes, handle keys is checked.

to be more clear, it installs fine and loads fine with media center (the event shows no errors), but doesn't do anything.  it doesn't skip commercials, it doesn't respond to keys, it doesn't fire an event when a show starts, nothing.

OK.  I found an older version (1.2.0.9) and put it on instead of the newer one and still the same problem.  Anyone found a solution yet?

there are several posts in the forum re. this topic.  the most common problem is that MSAS is broken.  Some have resolved this by installing the filewriter sink sample included in the sdk, personally I had to reinstall vista to fix it.

That worked! I registered the filewriter dll and now it works again... now to see if i can uninstall that and keep it working.  thanks.
