Converting mkv -> wtv. Unable to find Episode in TvDB

Hi all, I'm moving to WMC from a Toppy and want to move all my Topfield .rec files to be wtv files. I've managed to convert my .rec files into mkv files and so I was expecting to be able to then convert those into wtv files using dtk.

I've downloaded the latest v1.2.2.5 dvrmstoolkit and also have found the http://tvdbmetadata.codeplex.com/downloads/get/306360 update and installed this (v1.1.0.0) however I still get the "Unable to find episode in TvDB". Really sorry but I could do with a hand getting to grips with all this - I'm not sure if I'm fundamentally doing something stupid or whether this is an expected issue. I'm a developer so I understand things like regexes etc I am just a little unclear on the fundamentals of the video formats etc and the steps that are being used, what I need and what I could get away with.

Ideally I would like all metadata and full quality to be transferred as we have a lot of files on the old PVR

Show Analyser doesn't appear to work (says there are missing components, but perhaps there is a fix - from what I've read this is independent of this area anyway) but all the other tools seem to be working on the face of it at least

File conversion size

I convert recordings from WTV to MPG and then to AVI using ffmpeg with the Xvid/MP3 Fast - Medium Quality. The conversions seem to work fine but the output sizes of different shows are quite different. I have two shows that are on the same network that are both HD but after converting one show with the commercials removed at 44 minutes is 1.1 gigs, and the other one with commercials (they should have been removed but weren't, at least it didn't work today) at 63 minutes is 798 megs. Another show on a different network without commercials at 37 minutes is 386 megs. Can somebody explain why these shows would vary so much in their output size and if there is anything I can do to control it? Even if I can change the bit rate somewhere I would assume that it should be using a fixed rate already so it seems like the sizes should be more proportional.

Am able to consistently convert nearly all show MKV to WTV format. However I recently encountered an issue with Fashion Star where it creates a blank *.xml file and stops. Not sure how to resolve this?

HDhomerun prime and Ceton infinityTV USB w Comcast, Captions and Comskip in Sage

Originally tried getting Comskip and CCextractor working in Sage with files recorded from Ceton InfinityTV USB and the Comskip program would not run and CCextractor would report that the file was a "Multiprogram Transport Stream". No matter which stream is choosen CCextractor did not find the captions. Captions do display when selecting ATI MPEG Video decoder in Sage

Carlos Fernandez (CCextractor author) suggested I use the HDhomerun prime as the tuner. Well with the Prime recordings, Comskip runs fine and marks the comercials. CCextractor runs without error but does not find any captions.

I asked Carlos for help and he found the captions in a stream labeled "Private MPEG' instead of "Video MPEG".

Any ideas on this issue?

Uninstall problems - DVRMSToolbox

Have been using DVRMSToolbox (version 1222) for commercial stripping on a W7x64 Desktop since 2010 using the ShowAnalyzer (paid version) and the Media Center addin.

Recent commercial skipping performance has been getting worse, so I decided to try the ComSkip analyzer (paid version). I replaced the files for Comskip with the latest versions per instructions and then went to change the preferred analyzer in the DVRMStoMPEG Settings application. Unfortunately, this didn't work --an installation file was not found (DVRMSToolbox1222.msi). I restored the link to this file and installation proceeded for awhile but then stopped on a new error message, "Error 1001 The specified service already exists". Tried uninstalling DVRMSToolbox using Windows uninstall - error message saying that uninstall did not complete successfully. Did a system restore back to before I started messing with things which successfully completed -- but I'm stuck. The DVRMStoMPEG Settings app still doesn't work -- I don't seem to be able to uninstall and then reinstall the DVRMSToolbox package.

Suggestions? Help...

"catastrophic failure" on windows 8

DVRMS/Comskip have been working beautifully for a week or so on my Win8 PRO/media center setup. I had live TV skipping up and working successfully, and yesterday something decided to happen to it. The two shows that got DVR'd that night didn't commercial skip live, or process afterwards. The logs for both files show the same thing, and the file watcher seems to be trying to process these two over and over with the same result. DvrmsToolbox Version: 1.2.2.6 - Catastrophic Failure when trying to scan for commercials

I cant Figure our why I keep getting Catastrophic failure messages in my DvrmsToolbox log.

I am running Windows 8 64bit with DvrmsToolbox Version: 1.2.2.6 and comskip81_052_donators. I can sucsessfuly scan and find commercials in the .wtv file if I drop straight on the Comskip.exe but when I use DVRMStoobox I keep geeting a catastrophic failure message in the log. I have been successful with the same set up on a different boot partition. but cant get it working on my main boot partition and don't really want to reinstall everything. I have tried many times uninstalling Comskip and DVRMStoolbox and the addin manytimes to no avail. I tried scanning the registry and removing anytrace I could find of the programs, again no luck. Uninstalled most of my other programs and still a no go.

catastrophic failure in dvrmstoolbox log

Well I am stumped, I've tried just about everything.

I keep getting a catastrophic failure in the dvrmstool box log. I am running win 8 with DvrmsToolbox Version: 1.2.2.6. and comskip81_052_donators.

The comskip works fine if I drop the file right on to it. but not through the tool box. I installed everything on a fresh win 8 on a different partition and had success. I have tried re-installing dvrmstoolbox and comskip on my main operating system, with no change. tried uninstalling and wiping any trace from the registry and still no luck. I've tried uninstalling many other programs on my system to see if anything is conflicting with it, too no avail.

Anyhow here is my failed log file.

Both partitions were setup exactly the same way with the same configs and everything. even tried copying the whole directories over. I have windows installed on a ssd drive and my user directory on drive D: but installed all the program files for dvrmstoolbox and comskip on c: anyhow both partitions are set up this way and it works on the other.

I am totally baffled and lost my patience, any help wold be greatly appreciated.

DTB & FW Errors

Hi, I have just set up a new W7 x64 install running DTB1.2.2.6, DTBAddin 1.0.0.8 & Comskip 81.052 (Donators). I had to add a Metadatawait to the "Find Commercials in DVRMS" profile to get successful scans. The issue I am experiencing is that DTB and FW are throwing errors in the log files but I am still getting commerical xml files produced. So. Just moved to Windows 8 not too long ago. I used to have ShowAnalyzer with WMC7 running just fine, although some shows it didn't process well. Now Comskip is being actively developed and my research told me to grab the latest versions of Comskip, DTBAddin and DVRMSToolbox by donating to give me the best possible Windows 8 support. Now, if I was to run a command line telling the latest Comskip donator version to process a finished WTV file, it will process it great, spit out the files DVRMSToolbox needs to automatically skip commercials, and skip fine in Windows 8 Media Center (although recordings with a "sports ticker" on the bottom (ESPN) don't quite detect 100%, but that's another topic). If I do not have a WTV file processed, WMC will prompt me to scan it for commercials. This is the problem I'm running into, as telling WMC to scan for commercials doesn't do anything. Comskip doesn't scan, nothing happens. So I guess I'm basically looking for a quick tutorial to set all this up properly for a Windows 8 machine. If any of this doesn't pertain to this forum I'll be more than happy to direct this to the babgvant forums. I'm hoping this thread can turn into the definitive thread for getting Comskip, DVRMSToolbox and the DTBAddin working with Windows 8 Media Center. Thanks all and great work! EDIT: I wrote the text above very quickly and now that I have some time I feel I need to elaborate on what's written above. My software revisions are as follows: Comskip 0.81.052 DVRMSToolbox 1.2.2.6 R6 DTBAddin 1.0.0.8 R6 My process was: Install DVRMSToolbox (Chose to use the file watcher as a service), then DTBAddin. Reboot. Copy contents of Comskip to "C:\Program Files (x86)\DVRMSToolbox\Applications\". Change comskip.ini. I changed "output_dvrmstb=1" and "live_tv=1". After that process there isn't much left to do. The only setting I changed in DVRMSToolbox was "Automatic Cleanup" under the File Watcher tab. I mentioned above that using DTBAddin's popup to scan commercials doesn't work from WMC. I will say that directory watching is working properly, so this WMC popup to scan for commercials if no skip data is found is no big deal, but I'd like it to work. So, to summarize. The DTBAddin prompt in WMC to scan for commercials if none are found does not work. That is the only problem I'm having. Thanks again! Need Help Cutting Commercials

I am a SageTV user looking to automate cutting commercials from a sagetv mpeg2 recording and then convert the recording to an m4v for playback on a Roku (via Plex). What is the best way to cut the commercials out of an mpeg2 and result in another mpeg2 file with no commercials?? The command line for this is as follows: mencoder “InputFile” -edl “SageEDLFile” -oac copy -ovc copy -of mpeg -o “OutputFile.mpg” . When I run mencoder.exe with the following arguments: “%InputFile%” -edl “%SageEDLFile%” -oac copy -ovc copy -of mpeg -o “%CutMpegFile%.mpg” -mpegopts muxrate=36000 -quiet ...the process exits and moves to the next step with out creating an mpeg without the commercials...the weird thing is that I can run this code from a cmd window and it works flawlessly. I next tried to use the mencoder process...I edited the mencoder profile file...but am running into the same issue as discussed in this old thread where it is looking to get values for #dtbhres="-vf pp=md,harddup"....when in fact I don't want to pass these values to mencoder...if I delete everything between the quotes it says that the profile is not valid. Hi Newby here I am trying to install all my dvds onto my Hdd of my HTPC I have install auto rip and compress, the program wont perform the function in WMC and stanalone because it says that no burning program is installed.I have infact both anydvd and dvdfab insatlled. I have set the profile to both these programs without result.the settings says that dvdfab is not install even after i have selected anydvd in the profile. any ideas please. Oh! WMC Freezes with DTB addin on Windows 8

I have a bug here where WMC will freeze at random times, usually right before an episode ends. It doesn't seem to be limited to just recorded shows and happens with netflix as well, but its far more less likely. I have also observed this to happen on the menu when it was sitting for a long time, again this is rare. WMC doesn't report that its not responding but no mouse or keyboard action has an effect on it and it's usually frozen one one of the last frames of what is playing. I can't say for sure that its the DTB addin causing this bug but uninstalling it seems to resolve the issue. I also reformatted once and still run into this bug. This is a new os installation with minimal programs installed. This computer is only used for WMC.

Run External Issue or mencoder problem??

I am attempting to use the run external process to mencode an mpeg file to remove commercials. I have attached a log of my output. Why is mencoder exiting??? The commercials are never cut and no new output file is created? I wanted to check my syntax so I copied to command from the output window, opened a cmd.exe window, navigated to the mencoder directory and pasted the command and it does what I want/expect it to do. Any suggestions? I assume that this is an mencoder issue as I don't have any other issues with the run external process in other profiles. I have tried the mencoder that is bundled with dvrmstoolbox as well as a download from the web that is installed in another subfolder.

Cannot convert mkv to dvr-ms

DTBAddin Going Back After Last Commercial Skip Doesn't Work

Hello, My HTPC is running Windows 8 x64. The DTBAddin works properly for skipping most commercials, and if I hit the back button on my remote, it will go back to before the commercial skip. However, it doesn't do this when it skips the last commercial. So, if DTBAddin skips the "Next Episode Preview" at the end of the show (which typically happens because it's classified as a commercial), and I hit the back key, nothing happens. Instead, I have to disable DTBAddin and then manual skip back to before the commercial. It's a weird issue that only occurs for the last commercial block... If there is any chance of fixing this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm using the latest and greatest (early access) version of both DTBAddin and DVRMSToolbox. Thanks! J

Comskip only processing shows with titles starting A-L

Hi all. I've been trying to get DTb working on my Windows 7 installation for six months on an off, largely to get the commercial skipping functions .... and now with success!!!! But one oddity still remains. Comskip only processes TV shows that have titles that start A to L (plus numbers like 7.30 report). No commercial files exist for M-Z! (Or so the directory at C:\Users\Public\DvrmsToolbox\CommercialsXml says). (I had this issue on an earlier install but had no idea there was any rhyme to the behaviour until now). This applies to new recordings plus the library that FileWatcher is monitoring (K:\Recorded TV). I'm using a vanilla setup of DTb with the BTb Addin on a Windows 7 32 bit machine (with very few apps) and WMC7. The only thing I've done to customise is replace the comskip version with the donator version under DTb --> Applications and used a config file for Australian TV. Retaining .wtv features

Have a question about this DVR-MS TB program...just trying to be informed, and not download 1000 little free programs. Does the finished cropped product retain the useful information of the .wtv container? (details below) I record OTA tv onto an older desktop (7MC, 32-bit). I like the way WMC archives with program info, descriptions, ect. I've been using Windows Live Movie Maker to cut commercials and compressed obviously oversampled material (SD shows on HD channels can end up with HD file sizes). It's reasonably quick and hifi for these purposes, although the .wmv product doesn't archive as neatly. I'm looking for something else for editing b/c WLMM ends up with piss poor quality on true HD material, even when specifying 1080x1920 and a high bitrate. Really, Sunday's Simpsons came out blockier than my old digital converter box. I've already tried a reputed free MPEG2/WMV/AVI converter and been displeased with even worse picture and lengthy processing times. I would check out DVR-MS TB if: the finished edited product would show up in WMC with the same program information. I've tried jamming information into the file name but that seems like a poor solution.

Remote with comskip

Hello, I am using Comskip and want to define buttons on my Harmony remote to skip forward and back through commercials. Most of the choices for keys to remap in the commercials skip tab of DVDMSToolboxsettings look like they assume you will be using a keyboard to control skipping past commercials. I am currently using the up and down arrows on my remote and they work but they have other purposes in WMC. Can anyone suggest another pair of keys that I can map to a couple of buttons on my Harmony remote? The ideal buttons would not have any purpose while playing back a video. Thanks, Vance

Sound is out of sync after converting a DVR-MS file to MPG with your toolbox. Is this correctable with some setting? This problem seems to be widely known with a few solutions with old programs no longer available. A patch for my copy of Sonic MyDVD corrected it but my copy does not have the “fit to disk” compression option so I am now using Nero 12 where I can separate the audio track and try to get it in sync with video but that has not proved to be as easy as it seems it should.
