I'm having an issue where the add-in does not respond to my commands for turning skipping on and off, skipping forward, and skipping back. I have these set to "s" for on and off, and "n,b" for forward and back. In most situations, the add-in continues to automatically skip commercials. The skipping forward and back never works, while the skipping on and off will periodically fail (and not work again until media center is restarted). I haven't figured out exactly what causes toggle on and off to break but it might be watching a show with no commercial files. I'm running Windows Media Center on Windows 8 x64 1.2.2.6 R6 - Early Access DTBAddin - 1.0.0.8

Working Option For Windows 8 + Manual Skipping

I'm using Windows 8 and the latest donator Addin (DTBAddin1008R6.zip). If I enable autoskip in the config, it skips fine but I like using manual skip, and that does not seem to work with this addin version and Windows 8 (see http://babgvant.com/forums/t/4762.aspx). The keypresses do nothing and nothing is logged.

What is my best option for getting manual skip working in Windows 8? Does anyone have this combo working successfully? If so, what version of things are you using? Can I install the most recent non-donator Addin in Windows 8 (I saw some posts saying this was difficult)? Is there an earlier version of the donator addin that would work (1.0.0.8 R5, R4, etc.)?

BTW, the main DVRMSTB is working perfectly to create the skip files.

Recording Broker for Windows 7

I'm getting ready to upgrade my HTPC to windows 7. Just tried out Recording Broker on my laptop that has Win 7 ultimate and although it installs and configures fine, it does not function.

Any plans to Recording Broker compatible with Win 7? It has worked great for me for years and I'd pay for a Win 7 version!

I have NO experience with RegEx and it's frustrating to learn.

Filewatcher Commercial skip no longer working

Everything was working on my Windows 7 box for a long time. Then recently it stopped working. The only thing I can think that changed is the Intel drivers for my motherboard/graphics (I have an Intel DH67CF motherboard)

I've reinstalled Dtb using the latest Early Release. Also have the latest comskip (donator). Still no good.

Seems I can run comskip by hand just fine. Appears to be something with Filewatcher.

If anyone has ideas, please let me know. Others seem to have had this issue with no solution posted so I'm not sure what's up.

Converting mkv -> wtv. Unable to find Episode in TvDB

Hi all, I'm moving to WMC from a Toppy and want to move all my Topfield .rec files to be wtv files. I've managed to convert my .rec files into mkv files and so I was expecting to be able to then convert those into wtv files using dtk.

I've downloaded the latest v1.2.2.5 dvrmstoolkit and also have found the http://tvdbmetadata.codeplex.com/downloads/get/306360 update and installed this (v1.1.0.0) however I still get the "Unable to find episode in TvDB". Really sorry but I could do with a hand getting to grips with all this - I'm not sure if I'm fundamentally doing something stupid or whether this is an expected issue. I'm a developer so I understand things like regexes etc I am just a little unclear on the fundamentals of the video formats etc and the steps that are being used, what I need and what I could get away with.

Ideally I would like all metadata and full quality to be transferred as we have a lot of files on the old PVR

I have a lot of files that I recorded before I found out about dtb and I want to set it to make use of my cpu I have 6 cores would like to use maybe 3 or 4 of them for this process

I am running win7 x32 as an administrator. The latest version of DVRMSToolbox 1.2.2.3 (R3) [and DTBaddin 1.2.2.3 (R3)] is installed. ShowAnalyzer is also up to date with the latest version as of 5.5.11

For the past month I have been having problems putting my HTPC to sleep. According to powecfg -lastwake, the Process that is waking my machine after about 2 minutes is the wake timer associated with DVRMStoMPEG.exe. So I open the config for DVRMS and locate the check box for "Prevent Standby" under the Processing tab. As I do not want my machine to wake up to process commercials I would like to uncheck the box. However when I save it and return to the setting it is checked again. As mentioned I am admin, there shouldnt be a reason that I cannot change this option.

The only way that I can keep my system asleep is by disabling all sleep timers via Windows advanced power config. This obviously defeats the purpose of having an HTPC as you want it to wake up to record, NOT to just process some commercials.

Please! any suggestions on how to resolve this issue would be greatful.

if any log files are needed just ask and I will do my best to locate them.

DTBaddin stops working - Win 8

I'm running the latest donator version of DVRMSToolbox, DTBaddin, and Comskip under 64-bit Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. For now, I'm only watching shows while nothing new is being recorded and I'm sure all the shows in my public/recordedtv has been processed, meaning I can see that each has an xml file. I don't want/need any conversion, just commercial skipping of the wtv WMC show files.

But while watching shows, every couple of shows in a row, or some nights every show, the error pops up, "DTBaddin has stopped working and you will be returned to Windows Media Center." Quitting out of WMC and restarting it fixes the problem for another show or two then the same error occurs. Is there something I can look for in the log files or some trick to stop this error?

Thanks in advance for your help and for making this program suite to make life a bit less marketing pervasive, ergo sweeter.

File conversion size

I convert recordings from WTV to MPG and then to AVI using ffmpeg with the Xvid/MP3 Fast - Medium Quality. The conversions seem to work fine but the output sizes of different shows are quite different. I have two shows that are on the same network that are both HD but after converting one show with the commercials removed at 44 minutes is 1.1 gigs, and the other one with commercials (they should have been removed but weren't, at least it didn't work today) at 63 minutes is 798 megs. Another show on a different network without commercials at 37 minutes is 386 megs. Can somebody explain why these shows would vary so much in their output size and if there is anything I can do to control it? Even if I can change the bit rate somewhere I would assume that it should be using a fixed rate already so it seems like the sizes should be more proportional.

get rid of the .txt files that are created in the output directory

I have manged to turn off most of the excess files and am now only left with a single .txt file that isn't being cleaned up upon deletion of the show in the CommercialsXML folder. This text file is the one that starts with "FILE PROCESSING COMPLETE" according to the FAQ

Q. How do I get rid of the .txt files that are created in the output directory (The file begins with "FILE PROCESSING COMPLETE")? A. Those files are created by Show Analyzer by default, follow these steps:

The problem is I don't even have Show Analyzer installed. I am using the donation version of ComSkip. Is there an option somewhere that I can disable creation of this file?

Things I have tried I have automatic cleanup enabled which will remove the XML file in the same directory however it ignores this file even with txt included in the cleanup extension list. I have every output/verbose option disabled except for the XML file used by DVRMSToolbox in the comskip.ini and comskip.txt

Could this have something to do with the "Cleanup Frequency"? I set it down to 1 and it still has not removed any of the left over .txt files.

Setup using donator version of comskip

Over the last several months I have been having problems with Showanalyzer so I thought I would give comskip a go on my new system build. I purchased the donator version so it would work on my wtv files and now I am trying to get things working. My goal is to set it up so that the commercial files (.xml) are located in the Recorded TV folder along with the wtv files and for that matter any other files that are generated for each wtv file. That way when the wtv file is deleted, all the other files are deleted. Also, I think programs like RecordedTVHD like to have the xml files in the same directory as the wtv file. Unfortunately, I am running into a problem when I try to set this up. First I installed Dvrmstoolbox without Showanalyzer selecting it to setup the DTBWatcher as a service. Then I am supposed to copy certain files from the donators version of comskip into the applications directory under dvrmstoolbox. My first question is what files should I copy over. Secondly, other than changing the flag to one because I am working with dvrmstoolbox, are there any other changes I should make. As soon as I install dvrmstoolbox, it starts processing my Recorded TV directory producing txt and vih files in my Recorded TV directory and a bunch of txt, edl and xml files in various directories under the dvrmstoolbox folder under the public folder on drive C. When I try to go into the settings program, and change the commercial file directory to Recorded TV, the creation of xml files seems to stop alltogether. I can see the dvrmstoolbox service running, and it still generates txt files and vih files in the Recorded TV directory and under the dvrmstoolbox directory. However, I don't see the comskip program running anymore. I looked at some of the files and it seems to be indicating that it can't create the edl file and that it processed teh file and found no commercials. What am I doing wrong?

Convert .wtv to .mp4 back to .wtv - Need help writing profile

First off, the reason I'd want to do this is to keep the native metadata from the original .wtv file, but convert from mpeg-2 to mp4 in order to save space. I've been trying to do this for a while and can get up to the point of an mp4 or mkv file using a single profile, but that's where I'm getting stuck. I don't know much about video editing, so I was hoping someone could help me. I'm not sure how to manipulate the "context" items and frankly I'm just unclear as to what they are and what's happening when i manipulate them. I also am completely lost on how to write or interpret regex. In particular, the workflow I'm trying to achieve is 1) rename files, 2) convert to dvr-ms, 3) convert to .mp4, 4) convert to .wtv, and 5) copy metadata from dvr-ms to final .wtv file, 6) and then delete originalk .wtv and dvr-ms files. I'm pretty sure these .wtv files won't be recognized in the "recorded tv" view in media center, but I should be able to view them in Media Browser with metadata.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, including sample profiles. Commercial skipping would be a nice to have, but I really need help figuring out how to reconvert to .wtv and migrate the metadata (preferably everything happening with one profile).

DTBService stops on its own

The DTBService runs for a day and then stops. I have to manually go into Windows Services and Start it each day. My HTPC is on 24/7 with no sleep or hibernation or restarts unless I manually restart it. So I am not sure why the service is stopping.

Move FWLogs Location

Problems with cutting commercials and converting files using profiles

I am a windows 7 Media Center and user I recently recorded the series "The Walking Dead" on AMCHD. The system marked the commercials flawlessly and created the xml files. I was going to create a profile to convert the .wtv files to .dvr-ms, then cut the commercials, then convert the files to either wmv, mpeg or mkv, whichever format worked best. I would like to add them as a series into the MyMovies interface. I have not had much luck in creating my own profile so I tried to break the process down to smaller steps. I didn't see a profile to convert my files from wtv so I used the windows 7 wtvconverter to do that. Second, I used the profile "Cut Out Commercials, Convert to WMV" profile. It created a dvr-ms file in the DTBTemp directory but the converter failed. Also, I noticed that if I try to play the dvr-ms file in media center it doesn't work but I can play it in the Windows Media Player. The uncut file plays fine. I am using the 1.2.2.6 version of the toolbox. Is there something I am doing wrong? Can I convert WTV files from within the toolbox? What format would you suggest which offers really good picture and sound quality but with lower file size requirements than wtv? Lastly, can I write a profile to do all of this so I can do it in the future as well? Thanks, Dave

File Watcher custom Batch file

OK I think I am close to fully automating everything just the way I want it. But I've gone about it a slightly different way. Rather than using the profiles in DVRMSToolbox I crafted a batch file that does everything I need. This was initially primarily to test that the command line tools would accomplish what I needed. It started fairly simple and very manual with multiple steps and batch files, but has morphed into a fairly automated albeit manually triggered process.

The goal here is to convert files in the MKV container into WTV so they will play nice with my MC extenders. The batch file I've created basically takes the format: mkv2wtv "input folder name (year)" "input file name"

the mkv2wtv file

checks that the user has administrative rights
checks that the file (.mkv) exists in the directory provided
If the above items are OK then it determines if the mkv contains DTS audio
Then based on the above:

It extract the DTS audio and converts it to ac3 then re-packages a temp.mkv (with ac3 audio) then converts that to the WTV container OR
it simply repackages the MKV to WTV (in the event DTS was not detected)

Then of course it cleans up after itself.

The batch file appears to be fully debugged and works like a champ, now I want the extra nerd points to automate everything fully. I expect filewatcher is the way to go about this, but seems now that all this is built and working that the easiest thing would be to have filewatcher call the batch file when it discovers a new mkv file. I would need to pass the file name and potentially the folder name (just need the folder within the watched folder - the path to the watched folder is embeded in the batch file). Curious if there is a way to do this?

Details for clarity:
Watched Folder: \\opennas\media\movies\ --> this would be the watched folder in FW it is also embeded in the batch file so it knows this much of the path to start with.

New Movie arrives: Savnzbd places the new movie in a folder within the watched dir above in the format "movie name (year)" within that folder the movie is in the format "movie name.mkv". Currently I don't need the extension for the batch to run, it appends .mkv but I can change this to accomodate if need be.

I can add a post process script to SABNzd+ but that piece runs on a different linux box, and being these tools are all windows based...

Ideally FW would watch the folder, if a new file is detected (wait 5 mins to be sure SabNZBd gets a chance to finish copying) then run my batch file and pass the folder name and file name to the batch file.

If this isn't possible I can start trying to understand the profiles more and build a profile that does everything I did in the batch file, initially I was getting delayed due to my knowledge gap on the profiles so I used the batch file just to test that the conversion would even work, but now that the batch is working like a champ just looking to leverage that work.

"catastrophic failure" on windows 8

DVRMS was working pretty well for about two weeks. A week ago I started getting "catastrophic failure" showing up in all the logs, and since then all processing has stopped completely. The file watcher is still trying to process files, the logs keep growing bigger and bigger for any of the new files. A few are just over 200k now because they're just stuck in the loop. I'm not really sure what to do here. No settings had been changed prior to the failures. I've gone back through and checked everything over again, looked for hung/stuck processes and nothing really seems to be causing any apparent issues. The information in the logs is also VERY non-specific. Here's a snippet of one of the log files, they all read pretty much identically other than the file/directory information. Searching thetvdb.com unreliable

I am using the profile 'Convert MKV TV Show to WTV' to convert and attach metadata from thetvdb.com.

Works fine most of the time but if failures occur it is *always* the lookup from thetvdb.com for the metadata that fails.

On manually checking thetvdb.com I can view the meta for the show I am looking for but the lookup still fails on retrying. I can retry several times to no avail but then the lookup will simply automagically succeed and it completes perfectly.

Is it just thetvdb.com search API that sucks or is there something that can be done? It's driving me nuts.
